Monday and Tuesday, June 25 & 26
Lazy Monday morning...Woke up late and struggled out of bed. The windows are thrown open all over the house to let in the cool morning air. Max, Ella and I finally got ourselves out onto the streets. Wandered, purchased postcards and decided that certain Folignatas (Foligno residents) aren't very nice to us foreigners. I wonder whether it is simply that I am American or that I am mistaken for an immigrant and the Folignatas don't like immigrants (there are quite a number in this city). In any case, I keep expecting that everyone is going to be really nice (as in all the other times that I've visited Italy). My friend Natalie says that times are a changing, even here in Foligno. I'll be interested to see whether the same holds true for Rome, Venice and the other larger cities.

Tuesday, wandered to the open market. Not quite the same type of open market as in Florence--lots of tacky clothing and cheap plastic toys. Managed to find a suitable purse for 5 euros since I forgot mine in the U.S. (how on earth did I forget my purse???).

Photos below include Max in front of the italian Fantastic Four poster, the beautiful church in Foligno, and us, standing in front of those Italian doors I love so much.

Thoughts on Foligno... There are quite a few dead animals on the ground: pigeons, other birds, a cat. Odd. Lucia (my friend's daughter, who is 8) goes on and on about the dead animals in Foligno. It's funny what you don't notice about your town until you get to someone else's. Like, for instance, I don't think I ever noticed our LACK of dead animals in Petaluma until I came here. Huh. Perhaps the Italians are crazy drivers. Perhaps the animals are depressed and on a suicide mission. Hard to know. In any case, we don't have that many dead creatures lying in our roads or in our squares OR on the brick wall separating the sidewalk from the river.

Curious, curious.
