Firenze. Oh my. Such beauty. Such absolute beauty. We decided to alter our plans--initially we were going to go straight to Venice, but we decided to take a detour through Florence. One day in Florence for the boys and kids who've never seen it. I'm always amazed at how it takes my breath away. Today we went to see Il David by Michelangelo. Again, we are awestruck. One piece of marble. Those hands. Shoulders. I can barely sign my own name at 43 and Michelangelos is doing David at 29. I'm off to Venice now--on a train. Must go. Will update later. Back home on the 15th. It will be so nice to sleep on my own pillow.
A bit about the photos below:
1) Doesn't Ella look like she's about to get in her car and yet there's a giant in front of her?
2) Maria Louisa, her son Fabio and daughter Georgia--they rented our pool apartments to us.
3) Pink and orange--I love it.
4) In Firenze (Florence)...Il Duomo.
5) Wandering the streets of Firenze at 10pm--such beauty.
6) Our family room at Hotel Perseo in Florence.
7) Ella contemplates the sample of desserts: coffee cake, ricotta cake, tiramisu, kiwi pie
8) A view of the duomo at night, from Ella's bed.
