Prosciutto. hmmmm. I'm not sure what that word was supposed to represent. I had written it on July 3 (today being July 6). Clearly I was going to write something wonderful about prosciutto (what's not good???), but for the life of me I can't remember where I was.
Caught a cold on Wednesday and went to pick up my mom in Rome. The plane she was transferring to in Toronto was delayed 6 hours. One would think that with 6 extra hours on their hands they would have managed to get every piece of luggage. Not so. My mom still doesn't have her luggage (2 days later) and yet, as you can see by her photo, she looks awesome. Her new haircut really becomes her.
Thursday we wandered around Foligno sitting in cafes, and getting used to our new digs. My mom is in a beautiful simple hotel called Le Mura. The room is gorgeous and overlooks a courtyard, with a peek at the church. Her bathroom is twice the size of mine and her towels are a lot fluffier too. She only has to pay 40 euros and a full breakfast is included. The kids and I have moved into our own apartment which has windows that open up to the rooftops of Foligno. My bed has huge windows looking out over everything. I feel like a princess with my sheer golden curtains. The light comes streaming in (uh, starting at 5:15am) at daybreak. The pigeons start their cooing and some other odd birds do a screaching ritual for 10 minutes. No sounds from the city below. We have a lovely garden terrace where we ate dinner last night with my mom (pasta with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes & basil)--the kids had chicken nuggets (I couldn't resist).
I've stitched several photos together below to get a 180 degree idea of my terrace. The windows are our apartment. The pink area is my bedroom.
Gotta go. I no longer have internet access at our apartment, so will only be posting every few days and checking email every few days. I've really enjoyed hearing from those of you who have been keeping in touch.
